Emergency Physician Group Lampoons Anthem Billing Policy

With a tongue-partly-in-cheek video on YouTube, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is pushing back at insurer Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield’s emergency services billing policy that the College says is dangerous.

The policy leaves patients with the entire bill for emergency department visits that the insurer deems to have not been an emergency, based on the ultimate diagnosis — even if symptoms could have been consistent with a life-threatening condition.
