Stroke Robot

From the Gazette:

Using mobile two-way audio and video equipment called a Robot, ER physicians at Newman and KU neuro-specialists can immediately connect in real time via a secure internet link to provide Newman physicians with the same access to neuro-specialists as ER physicians in Kansas City. The neuro-specialist has the ability to manipulate and turn the camera on the robot to scan the entirety of a room and, with the help of the ER physician, can assess and interview the patient and talk with family members and other care providers just as if the specialist was in the room. Once a patient presents to the emergency department, a phone call is made to the on-call stroke neurologist at KU for a consultation request. A CT scan at Newman is the first step and then the robot is brought to the bedside of the patient while the stroke neurologist logs on to the system.
