Georgia governor passes tax on providers to bolster Medicaid

Georgia Republican Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a “bed tax” measure into law to avoid a roughly $900 million gap in Medicaid funding, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution blog.

The measure requires hospitals to pay 1.45 percent of their net patient revenue which the state then uses to help fund Medicaid and bolster hospitals that provide care to uninsured patients.
