Man who died in Methodist ER bathroom suffered a broken neck

From PJStar:

Preliminary autopsy results on a Central Peoria man found dead in a UnityPoint Health-Methodist bathroom show he suffered a fracture in his neck that likely resulted in his death.

Phillip Burgess, 54, of 2601 W. Reservoir Blvd. was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. Friday after he was found by a Methodist employee deceased in a bathroom in the emergency department, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

Burgess had gone to UnityPoint earlier that day to be treated for a seizure and a cut on his chin, according to reports. He had been discharged about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and proceeded to a bathroom, located within the emergency department. An employee told officials he saw clothing sticking out from under the bathroom door, and when he went to open the unlocked door, Burgess’ body was on the floor blocking it.
