Officials at Genesis say that since the start of this year, they have seen a flood of IlliniCare patients after UnityPoint Health-Trinity, the Quad-Cities’ other major hospital system, did not re-sign with IlliniCare at the end of last year.
The new patients not only crowded their clinics, but, hospital officials say, because IlliniCare does not have an adequate provider network in the Quad-Cities — particularly when it comes to specialty services — patients often end up in the emergency room. That, they say, has had a financial impact.
