By the Numbers: Who Are the ED ‘Frequent Flyers’?

Some findings were unsurprising: The major ICD codes associated with regular visitors covered pregnancy and childbirth, ill-defined conditions, and diseases of the blood. Others, however, went against common assumptions. Most notably, the authors wrote, self-paying patients were only 7% more likely than commercially insured individuals to be frequent ED visitors.
