Iowa Hospital Data Trends

From the Iowa Hospital Association:
IHA has collected Iowa hospital data trends for January-May 2016 as compared with the same time period in 2015. For this report, 102 Iowa hospitals provided data.

  • Average length of stay decreased 0.2 percent for the period, indicating a decreased level of acuity.
  • Inpatient admissions from the emergency department are up 3.3 percent which is approaching to what was seen in 2015.
  • Observation visits increased 0.4 percent and outpatient utilization decreased 2.9 percent, which is below the current trending increases in recent outpatient visits data.
  • Charity care declines are still trending downward, down 8.6 percent which is trending toward the similar declines in the 2015 data.
