Tech Doc: Ultrasound changing how physicians diagnose at your bedside

Clinicians do point-of-care ultrasonography at the bedside for immediate diagnosis based on the patients’ symptoms or examination and for treatment with ultrasound-guided procedures. Emergency physicians perform focused ultrasonography on trauma patients, basic cardiac ultrasound on patients with heart failure or difficulty breathing and procedures such as catheter placement under ultrasound guidance. Intensivists are using ultrasound to image lung in intensive care units.
