Spike in WA emergency department visits sparks new education campaign

From ABC:

The WA Government has launched a $600,000 three-year advertising campaign to discourage people with non-urgent medical problems from turning up at hospital emergency departments (EDs) for treatment.

Health Minister John Day said the campaign had been prompted by a 50 per cent increase in the number of people using EDs over the past 10 years.

He said more than one million West Australians presented at EDs in 2015.

“We know about 130,000 of these visits could have been addressed by other health care options,” he said.
