Telemedicine: Saving a life at the press of a button

He’s referring to pressing an eEmergency button in a hospital room. Doctors including Dr. Jon Maher can press this button and moments later are connected to a physician or nurse in South Dakota via webcam. They have one job — to help those like Maher save lives.

“I’ve spent my entire career in small, rural hospitals and most the time things go fairly smoothly, but sometimes there are some unexpected things you may not have seen for 10 to 15 years. It’s nice to have a backup,” Maher said.
