Telemdicine: AveraNow offers mobile doctor visits

From the Daily Reporter:

Smartphones contain apps for everything from paying bills to ordering pizza. Now, Avera Health is offering an app to allow patients to see a doctor on the go 24/7 called AveraNow.

The free mobile video app can be used on smartphones, tablets and computers. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and will soon be available in the iTunes App Store. Users can also visit to access the app.

“Our patients can now get an AveraNow visit from anywhere, day or night,” Tad Jacobs, chief medical officer for Avera Medical Group, said. “AveraNow gives people on-demand access to health care. The service is not limited to Avera patients.”

Anyone within the five-state Avera Health service area can use the app for appropriate minor illnesses, such as colds, flu, bronchitis, allergies, rashes, urinary tract infections and sore throats. Service is available for patients as young as 2 years old. Most appointments last approximately 10 minutes.
