In the wake of an acute ischemic stroke, low-molecular weight heparin may help prevent early neurologic deterioration in patients with large artery occlusive disease, researchers reported.
In a post hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial, patients given heparin instead of aspirin were significantly less likely to have neurologic deterioration within the first 10 days after stroke, according to Ka Sing Lawrence Wong, MD, of the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong, and colleagues.
