Doctors alerted if diabetic or asthmatic patients are treated in the ED

From the Middletown Journal:

Local patients with diabetes or asthma who end up in the emergency room will likely have their primary care doctors know about it in real-time.

Primary care physicians throughout the area, up to 85 practices by the end of the month, will be alerted by most hospitals in Butler County and the rest of Greater Cincinnati if their at-risk patients visit the emergency department, said Trudi Matthews, spokeswoman for HealthBridge, the region’s health information exchange. Doctors can be notified within minutes of a patient admission and/or discharge, depending on the hospital technology system.
