Athletic trainers, emergency medical providers conduct joint training

Participants in the event talked through several potential real-life scenarios, then practiced proper procedures for handling various injuries, including proper transportation procedures for persons with suspected head or spinal injuries. They also learned from ISU athletic trainers that, while it is almost always necessary to completely remove an injured football player’s face mask, it is generally better to leave the player’s helmet and pads in place.

Survey of likely voters shows overwhelming support of emergency room treatment for those without health insurance

  • 91% think hospital emergency rooms should treat someone without insurance if they are in a serious accident and brought in with a serious condition, while 6% feel they should not be treated
  • 39% estimate that half or more of emergency room patients receive treatment but don’t have health insurance. Another 20% think one-in-four of those who go to emergency rooms for care don’t have insurance.

Bill Would Toughen Penalties For Assaulting ER Personnel

Anyone who assaults a doctor or nurse in a hospital emergency room would be charged with a Class “D” felony under a bill proposed by Kentucky state Senator John Schickel. The Republican from Union spoke in support of his measure during a meeting today of a legislative panel. Schickel says the proposal has the support of the Kentucky Association of Emergency Room Nurses and the Kentucky Hospital Association.
