From the Sydney Morning Herald:
There are GOMERS – patients whom the doctors want to ”get out of my emergency room” – and the ones who ”bounce”, those an inpatient team rejects.
Emergency doctors must ”package” and ”sell” a patient, according to a study published in BMJ, to persuade an inpatient medical or surgical team to admit them under their care. One Sydney doctor interviewed by researchers said: ”The burden of proof is on emergency. They have to prove that the patient is worthy of your care … I’ve been told they lie in [this emergency department].”
