Board Certified ED Docs

From ACEP’s The Central Line:

With the “shortage of emergency medicine physicians” and in light of Dr. Carmago’s excellent study on the current workforce situation in the USA, I believe the easiest way to help fill the need in the nation’s ER’s, and at the same time allow those of us non-boarded EM specialists to have a modicum of job security, is to convince hospitals to waive the board certification requirment for credentialing EM doctors.

f it is true that hospitals cannot discriminate against non-boarded doctors then it might be easier to convince medical boards to waive their certification
requirement in the consideration of emergency medicine applicants. It seems to me that such a step could go a long way in solving workforce problems, and, at the same time, allow you and me to be respected and valued in a manner befitting our qualifications as emergency medicine specialists.
