Wholesale hospital, doc-office prices rise in June

Wholesale prices for hospitals climbed 0.2% in June for the third consecutive month, show preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index. In June 2008, the wholesale hospital price index dropped 0.1%. For the year ended in June, the hospital PPI rose 2.9% compared with 3.2% for the year-ago period.

Physician office prices increased 0.2% last month compared with a 0.1% decline in May, according to the preliminary figures. The physician PPI was flat in June 2008. For the 12 months that ended in June, the wholesale physician price index rose 2.2%, an increase from the 0.9% during the prior year.
